Jamming transition in a highly dense granular system under vertical vibration
The dynamics of the jamming transition in a three-dimensional granular system
under vertical vibration is studied using diffusing-wave spectroscopy. When the
maximum acceleration of the external vibration is large, the granular system
behaves like a fluid, with the dynamic correlation function G(t) relaxing
rapidly. As the acceleration of vibration approaches the gravitational
acceleration g, the relaxation of G(t) slows down dramatically, and eventually
stops. Thus the system undergoes a phase transition and behaves like a solid.
Near the transition point, we find that the structural relaxation shows a
stretched exponential behavior. This behavior is analogous to the behavior of

Holographic interacting dark energy in the braneworld cosmology
We investigate a model of brane cosmology to find a unified description of
the radiation-matter-dark energy universe. It is of the interacting holographic
dark energy with a bulk-holographic matter . This is a five-dimensional
cold dark matter, which plays a role of radiation on the brane. Using the
effective equations of state instead of the
native equations of state , we show that this model
cannot accommodate any transition from the dark energy with to the phantom regime . Furthermore, the case of interaction between cold dark matter and
five dimensional cold dark matter is considered for completeness. Here we find
that the redshift of matter-radiation equality is the same order
as . Finally, we obtain
a general decay rate which is suitable for describing all interactions
including the interaction between holographic dark energy and cold dark matter.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figure
A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL
We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz
toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of
Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between
500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between K in units of .
A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have
been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new
lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with
known identifications. There is no detection of H or He recombination lines.
The identified spectra are from a total of 16 molecular species and their
isotopic variants. In the range from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz, the strongest spectral
line is the J=3-2 transition of CS molecule, followed by transitions of the
, , , and . Spectral lines from
the large organic molecules such as , , , and are prominent; with 80 % of the
identified lines arising from transitions of these molecules. The rotational
temperatures and column densities are derived using the standard rotation
diagram analysis for (), , and with and . These estimates are fairly comparable to the values for the

Vortex solutions of a Maxwell-Chern-Simons field coupled to four-fermion theory
We find the static vortex solutions of the model of Maxwell-Chern-Simons
gauge field coupled to a (2+1)-dimensional four-fermion theory. Especially, we
introduce two matter currents coupled to the gauge field minimally: the
electromagnetic current and a topological current associated with the
electromagnetic current. Unlike other Chern-Simons solitons the N-soliton
solution of this theory has binding energy and the stability of the solutions

Perturbation theory of the space-time non-commutative real scalar field theories
The perturbative framework of the space-time non-commutative real scalar
field theory is formulated, based on the unitary S-matrix. Unitarity of the
S-matrix is explicitly checked order by order using the Heisenberg picture of
Lagrangian formalism of the second quantized operators, with the emphasis of
the so-called minimal realization of the time-ordering step function and of the
importance of the -time ordering. The Feynman rule is established and is
presented using scalar field theory. It is shown that the divergence
structure of space-time non-commutative theory is the same as the one of
space-space non-commutative theory, while there is no UV-IR mixing problem in

Neuropathological Responses to Chronic NMDA in Rats Are Worsened by Dietary n-3 PUFA Deprivation but Are Not Ameliorated by Fish Oil Supplementation
Background
Dietary long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation may be beneficial for chronic brain illnesses, but the issue is not agreed on. We examined effects of dietary n-3 PUFA deprivation or supplementation, compared with an n-3 PUFA adequate diet (containing alpha-linolenic acid [18:3 n-3] but not docosahexaenoic acid [DHA, 22:6n-3]), on brain markers of lipid metabolism and excitotoxicity, in rats treated chronically with NMDA or saline. Methods
Male rats after weaning were maintained on one of three diets for 15 weeks. After 12 weeks, each diet group was injected i.p. daily with saline (1 ml/kg) or a subconvulsive dose of NMDA (25 mg/kg) for 3 additional weeks. Then, brain fatty acid concentrations and various markers of excitotoxicity and fatty acid metabolism were measured. Results
Compared to the diet-adequate group, brain DHA concentration was reduced, while n-6 docosapentaenoic acid (DPA, 22:5n-6) concentration was increased in the n-3 deficient group; arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4n-6) concentration was unchanged. These concentrations were unaffected by fish oil supplementation. Chronic NMDA increased brain cPLA2 activity in each of the three groups, but n-3 PUFA deprivation or fish oil did not change cPLA2 activity or protein compared with the adequate group. sPLA2 expression was unchanged in the three conditions, whereas iPLA2 expression was reduced by deprivation but not changed by supplementation. BDNF protein was reduced by NMDA in N-3 PUFA deficient rats, but protein levels of IL-1ÎČ, NGF, and GFAP did not differ between groups. Conclusions
N-3 PUFA deprivation significantly worsened several pathological NMDA-induced changes produced in diet adequate rats, whereas n-3 PUFA supplementation did not affect NMDA induced changes. Supplementation may not be critical for this measured neuropathology once the diet has an adequate n-3 PUFA content
Improving Predictions for Helium Emission Lines
We have combined the detailed He I recombination model of Smits with the
collisional transitions of Sawey & Berrington in order to produce new accurate
helium emissivities that include the effects of collisional excitation from
both the 2 (3)S and 2 (1) S levels. We present a grid of emissivities for a
range of temperature and densities along with analytical fits and error
estimates.
Fits accurate to within 1% are given for the emissivities of the brightest
lines over a restricted range for estimates of primordial helium abundance. We
characterize the analysis uncertainties associated with uncertainties in
temperature, density, fitting functions, and input atomic data. We estimate
that atomic data uncertainties alone may limit abundance estimates to an
accuracy of 1.5%; systematic errors may be greater than this. This analysis
uncertainty must be incorporated when attempting to make high accuracy
estimates of the helium abundance. For example, in recent determinations of the
primordial helium abundance, uncertainties in the input atomic data have been

Unification in 5D SO(10)
Gauge unification in a five dimensional supersymmetric SO(10) model
compactified on an orbifold is studied. One
orbifolding reduces N=2 supersymmetry to N=1, and the other breaks SO(10) to
the Pati-Salam gauge group \ps. Further breaking to the standard model gauge
group is made through the Higgs mechanism on one of the branes. The differences
of the three gauge couplings run logarithmically even in five dimensions and we
can keep the predictability for unification as in four dimensional gauge
theories. We obtain an excellent prediction for gauge coupling unification with
a cutoff scale GeV and a compactification scale
GeV. Finally, although proton decay due to
dimension 5 operators may be completely eliminated, the proton decay rate in
these models is sensitive to the placement of matter multiplets in the 5th

Boundary degrees of freedom in fractional quantum Hall effect: Excitations on common boundary of two samples
Using the Carlip's method we have derived the boundary action for the fermion
Chern-Simons theory of quantum Hall effects on a planar region with a boundary.
We have computed both the bulk and edge responses of currents to the external
electric field. From this we obtain the well-known anomaly relation and the
boundary Hall current without introducing any ad hoc assumptions such as the
chirality condition. In addition, the edge current on the common boundary of
two samples is found to be proportional to the difference between Chern-Simons

Radius-dependent gauge unification in AdS5
We examine the relation of the 4-dimensional low energy coupling of bulk
gauge boson in a slice of AdS5 to the 5-dimensional fundamental couplings as a
function of the orbifold radius R. This allows us to address the gauge coupling
unification in AdS5 by means of the radius running as well as the conventional
momentum running. We then compute the radius dependence of 1-loop low energy
couplings in generic AdS5 theory with 4-dimensional supersymmetry, and discuss
the low energy predictions when the 5-dimensional couplings are assumed to be
